Studio Wantia is a creative design studio, focusing on graphic and playful patterns.
Designer and artist Sophie Wantia has a background in Fashion and Textiles (HKU, Utrecht), where her obsession for colors and patterns started. Driven by a fascination for playing with material, color and shape, she explores different applications of a pattern. Starting from textiles in fashion, but slowly expanding her vision to different materials and objects, resulting in commissioned, collaborative and self-initiated projects.
She works in a very intuitive way, with a strong and accurate eye for graphic composition. Her work process includes combining digital innovative techniques with analogue processes. Collecting structures, materials and colors, that are merged into collages. These are often inspired by daily objects and a mix of natural and artificial colors. This ongoing research gives her endless possibilities in translating this into artworks, textile patterns and products in fashion and interior. During this creative process, sustainability is a core principle and patterns are used as an approach to upcycle materials and objects. The design of a pattern is often based on the shape of the re-used matter. This makes every design a one-of-a-kind combination of pattern and shape, that expands our definition of what a pattern can be.
With her playful and graphic world, Sophie Wantia believes in the positive impact that color and play has, encouraging our imagination within our daily lives.
